Where do we go from here? Women's 10,000m

When Meseret Defar ran a then world-leading 31 minutes 7.34 seconds to win her debut 10,000 metres in Stockholm on the last day in May, it was windy and warm (26deg.C). Even allowing for the weather, the Ethiopian 2007 world champion at 5000 metres was less than pleased.
"I'm not happy at all," said the woman who is also her countrywoman Tirunesh Dibaba's archrival.
"This time is not (fast) enough," Defar lamented, referring to her ambitions to run both the 5000 and 10,000 metres at the coming world championships in Berlin (no doubt seeking to emulate Dibaba's Beijing Olympic double).

Well, 31 minutes would get you into most country's teams but... READ ON
