A police officer has won the Edinburgh Marathon, crossing the line in 2 hours 18 minutes and 24 seconds.Martin Williams, 31, who is based in Dudley but runs for Scotland because of his Scottish mother, was only entering a marathon for the third time. He said: "I'm really pleased this is my best marathon so far."
The women's race was won by Holly Rush of Bradford Upon Avon in a time of 2:41:38. More than 13,000 runners took part in the race.
Neil Kilgour, race director for the Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon, said: "The weather has been beautiful today and has showcased Edinburgh at its very finest.
"The cool breeze from the coast has kept temperatures down but it has still been too hot for some of the slower runners who are not regular marathon racers or are running for charity as a fun run.
"We have been extra careful to make sure our water supply was remained well stocked and our medical teams have been on hand to check out our competitors for any heat-related issues." Williams shaved more than a minute off his personal best in winning his first marathon title and reached the qualifying time target for the Commonwealth Games.
