Justin Young: The travelling marathoner - an interview

The traveling marathoner. That’s the name Justin Young should be given. From Illinois, to Indiana, to Michigan, to Colorado, then racing all around the world, Young has been a man on the move for the past few years. The past year has been especially exciting for Young, including a personal best marathon performance at the Rotterdam Marathon, where he placed 13th overall in 2:13:52, which earned him a spot on this summer’s U.S. squad that will compete at the IAAF World Marathon Championships in Berlin.

Since that performance, Young has continued racing strong. In February of this year, Young placed ninth overall at the U.S. Half-Marathon Championships in Houston, finishing in 1:03:25. The Colorado-based athlete then traveled back to his hometown of Peoria, Illinois, where he placed seventh in the Steamboat Classic 4 mile race with a time of 18:42, following that up on July 4 with a 12th place performance at the U.S. Road 10k Championships in Atlanta, finishing in 29:08.

All of this leads to now, a time that Young is starting to pour his attention into marathon training, with an eye on Berlin. In this two part interview, Young talks about his racing and training, while delving into detail about his running background, his professional running experience and much more.
