Old Mutual Victory Race Series Namibia: race no. 1

A TOTAL of 485 athletes participated in the ninth annual Old Mutual Victory Race Series that kicked off at Oshakati in the Oshana Region on Saturday.
At the end of the series, the winners (male and female) receive N$10 000 (1st prize); N$5 000 (2nd prize) and N$2 500 (3rd prize).
Helena Iipinge of the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) won the 21km for senior women with a time of 1 hour, 12 minutes and 51 seconds, while Anna Amukoto was second in 1:16:30 and Otilie Aimwata came in third place with a time of 1:22:45.

The men's half-marathon proved a competitive battle from the start, with Johannes Naitembu from the Ohangwena Region winning this category in 1:03:03. Mynharde Efraim was the runner-up with a time of 1:03:24. The defending champion in the male category, Frans Hosea, also from the NDF, took third place in 1:03:42.

Tobias Eliazer won the 21km race for veteran men, Johannes Fillipus (second position) and Mannie Ross (third), while the title in the veteran women's category went to Laurencia Elago, with Letisia Kashuku in the second place.

The next Victory Race is scheduled for July 18 in Swakopmund.
