Sierre-Zinal

Sierre-Zinal ist not only one of the toughest mountain races out there - 31k with 2,200 meters of climbing and 800m of descending at the end - but also one of the most stunning with a view on five 4,000ers.
I ran it last year and found the first 5k (3m) particularly tough as one has to climb no less than 1,100m (3,300ft) on steep trails straight up a forest. However, once you are up there, you not only keep climbing but also feel like breathing through a straw unless you live at altitude.
In other words: a great race! ;)
