For what purpose you go to Berlin at the start?
Haile Gebrselassie: I want to win and with a world record!
Since you've set last year in Berlin, the current world record, you have missed a few more personal bests been announced. This is rather unusual for Haile Gebrselassie. Why?
Haile Gebrselassie: For me, spring is a difficult time because it is often cool and damp, and also many of pollen flying around. I have particularly in the spring of difficulty in breathing through the pollen count. In Berlin I had in the past two years of luck with the weather conditions. I hope that this time it will be again.
Their shape is like compared to last year? 2008, you suffered shortly before the race in Berlin under a calf problem.
Haile Gebrselassie: Overall, I'm in better shape than a year ago. And I have no such problems as in 2008 with my calf.
How many training kilometers you have completed an average of a week in preparation for the real, - Berlin Marathon, and how long was the longest single run?
Haile Gebrselassie: So to measure training kilometers in Ethiopia, which is a very complicated matter. I do not always run on normal roads or paths. I do not know exactly how many miles I run in the week, but I guess that there have between 200 and 240th 240 would be the maximum, in many weeks, I ran about 200 kilometers. My longest training run lasts three hours.
In Berlin, you will meet Duncan Kibet - this is a big challenge. What do you think?
Haile Gebrselassie: Yes, of course, is a race with Duncan Kibet a major challenge. But last year I had with James Kwambai on an opponent who until kilometer 34 was still with me at the top. Should now run along Duncan Kibet even after 35 kilometers, could develop in fact a tactical race where we might miss the world record - unless he is in the form of breaking the world record itself.
Start for the fourth consecutive time at the real, - Berlin Marathon. How is your relationship to the city and about Germany?
Haile Gebrselassie: During my first start in Germany, I felt very comfortable. Then at the World Championships in Stuttgart in 1993, I've won one gold and one silver medal. I have referred many fond memories of competitions in Germany - both on the indoor season with a meeting in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, the summer with the Golden League in Berlin and of course the marathon in Berlin. I am proud to have placed so many world records in Germany. The crowd enthusiasm at the real, - Berlin Marathon is amazing - everyone seems to know me and my name.
