The Bank of America Chicago Marathon - General Information


The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is the pinnacle of achievement for elite athletes and everyday runners alike. On Sunday, October 11, 2009, runners from all 50 states and more than 100 countries will set out to accomplish a personal dream. Following are all the details participants need to make sure they are ready for the race.

Location and Start Time
Location: Grant Park, Chicago
Marathon Start: 7:30 a.m. (CDT)
*Please note that the 7:30 a.m. start time is 30 minutes earlier than previous years.

Participant Guide
A 2009 Bank of America Chicago Marathon Participant Guide has been mailed to all registered participants. The mailed copy of the Participant Guide includes your Confirmation Ticket and important event information, timelines, details and maps. You can download a copy of the Participant Guide below.

Please note: The PDF version of the Participant Guide does NOT include your Confirmation Ticket. Only the mailed version of your Participant Guide and the Confirmation E-mail serve as your Confirmation Ticket.

Race Day Timeline and Procedures
On race day, please refer to the race day timeline and instructions. In order for all Bank of America Chicago Marathon participants to have the best possible experience, it is important that individuals adhere to the stated times and instructions. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask event volunteers and officials and look for information kiosks located throughout Grant Park.

Official Program
The Official 2009 Bank of America Chicago Marathon Program is now viewable online. In addition, the Official Program will be distributed to select specialty running stores, sporting goods stores and fitness clubs throughout the Chicagoland area prior to race day (wherever Chicago Athlete Magazine is distributed). The Official Program is a collector’s piece that includes elite race previews, runner profiles, feature articles, statistics, facts about the 2009 race and things to do while you’re in the Windy City.

Please note that all registered participants will still receive a copy of the Official Program in their Participant Bag at the Chicago Marathon Health & Fitness Expo.

Age Groups and Awards
Participants will compete in the following Male and Female Age Groups: 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over.

Personal engraved finish medals will be awarded to the top five finishers in the above Age Groups.

Nike Pace Teams
Nike Pace Teams can help participants achieve their performance goals. Marathon veterans serving as Nike Pace Team Leaders will set the pace according to the following finish times: 2:50, 3:00, 3:10, 3:20, 3:30, 3:40, 3:45, 3:50, 3:55, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5:00, 5:15, 5:30 and 5:45. Team Competition
Take your performance to the next level by rallying your teammates and participating in the Team Competition at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon!

The Chicago Marathon Team Competition is free and open to all runners, running club members, groups of friends, co-workers and corporate teams. The Team Competition offers two divisions: Red for competitive teams and Blue for runners of all abilities. The Team Competition offers Male, Female, Coed, and Masters Teams, as well as combined finish time and age-graded scoring.
