Former Olympic marathon bronze medallist Deena Kastor will compete at the Great Australian Run in Melbourne on November 29.
Kastor, one of the greatest distance runners to ever come out of the United States, currently owns the national records for 15kilometre, the half marathon and marathon national records.
The Californian, on the comeback trail after breaking her foot in last year's Olympic Games after three miles, competed in her first race over that distance when finishing sixth in the Chicago Marathon in 2:28:50 last Sunday.
Her appearance in Melbourne will set up a much anticipated 15km showdown with Australia’s own multiple national distance record holder Benita Willis.
Joining the pair will be the past two Olympic marathon champions, Kenyan Samuel Wanjiru, winner in Beiking last summer and and Italian Stefano Baldini who preceded him with his victory in Athens.
