The countdown to this year’s Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is getting lower by the day as the race continues to grow in stature.
City marathon with a vision
The last week, in particular, has been quite productive in as far as race organisation is concerned, with two major players jumping on board to increase the allure of Kenya’s premier 42-kilometre race.
Jubilee Insurance and Christian Blindness Movement (CBM) were the big entries to the list of race partners with CBM announcing a Sh600,000 prize pack for the top three men and women in a special tricycle category that will run alongside the traditional wheelchair race.
And on Thursday, Jubilee Insurance forked out Sh70 million in form of insurance cover.
Competitors and organisers at this year’s Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon can now prepare comfortably after Jubilee Insurance forked out Sh70m in form of insurance cover.
Jubilee Kenya general manager and principal officer, Patrick Tumbo, said the sponsorship deal is inclusive of the Group Personal Accident cover for the estimated 15,000 runners expected for the race meeting.
“The package will offer protection to all the marathon entrants, of all ages drawn from over 20 countries,” Tumbo said.
The insurance company will spend Sh26m on all risk for general equipment with a public liability cover worth Sh12m indemnifying title sponsors Standard Chartered Bank against loss or damage incurred in the course of the event.
“Ticketing and timing equipment that has been hired from South Africa will be protected for Sh5m while on transit and during the stay in the country,” Tumbo said.
