St. Anne's Park was the venue for today's Dublin County Senior Cross Country Championships. Despite the brave efforts of the athletes that turned out for the club, medals alluded Donore on this occasion.
The juvenile athletes suffered the worst of the weather running in very difficult conditions, yet they put in in some very good performances. In the u10s,sprinter Robyn O 'Keeffe showed that she has plenty of talent on the country as well, getting into the medals. Allanah Maxwell in her first ever race also showed good promise as did Lee McHenry who ran very well in the boys event. Bjorn Downes also made his first appearance in a Donore vest in the boys u.12 and ran very well.Claire O'Connor continued her improvement , also having her best ever run.The u14 boys ran well as a team. In the 16 boys, Eoin Meyler had an excellent run in 6th place followed closely by injury struck Philip McDonagh in 9th. The team was completed by Jason and Marcel in 24th and 26th positions. Eric Keogh placed in 7th position in his category.
The women were unfortunate not to have a team, however the individual entries from Adrienne Jordon and Anne Curley gave solid performances. Adrienne ran a well-paced race and showed great form finishing in 9th position, Anne finished not too far behind in 17th place. The club race was won by Sportsworld, Raheny took silver and Clonliffe bronze.
The men's team was made up of John Downes, Mark Dooley, Eoin Rowan, Ken Norgrove, Gavin Keogh and Keith Daly. A very competitive field meant saw Donore senior men finishing as 6th of 8 teams. However, the points differential between bronze and the 6th place was not significant - again signs of a senior team that is growing in depth and breadth. The placings for the men were John 22nd, Mark 23rd, Eoin 25th, Ken 44th, Gavin 52nd and Keith 58th. The men's race was won by Rathfarhnam, with Raheny in 2nd and DSD taking bronze.
