Big Sur Half Marathon
Big Sur Half Marathon was held on Monterey Bay (15 November) with 5,500 competitors. It wasn’t the fastest of courses with some slight hills and ocean breezes but definitely one of the most scenic course I have run. The gun went off at 7am and it was indeed cool.
I was one of four women that ran together until the turnaround point just before mile 8. Mary Akor (CA), the 2005 Big Sur International Marathon champion, Lauren Johnson (OR), Peris Chumba (KEN) and myself jostled for position while drafting behind some fast male runners. Akor, originally from Nigeria, made her move just past the turnaround and pulled away to win by almost one minute, 1:15:55. I finished second in 1:16:37 (Fiona Docherty). Lauren Johnson moved up one spot from last year's fourth place finish to take third in 1:17:04 and Peris Chumba, a Kenyan who now trains in Aurora, CO took fourth in 1:17:47.
It was a solid honest course and one of the highlights was seeing my brother, his wife, Cheryl and her son, Scotty at the finish line to greet me. We then spent a wonderful afternoon enjoying the sights of Monterey. Oh I do miss the ocean.

Boulder Turkey Trot - 5km
The crowd that lined up this morning for Boulder's 19th Annual Turkey Trot 5K was one-third larger than it's ever been, leaving organizers hopeful to nearly double last year's proceeds — all of which go to the Community Food Share.
It was a perfect day, clear blue skies, and very mild temperatures. A great race to do before digging into a big Thanks Giving dinner. I enjoyed racing locally and it was a nice little tune up for my big race next week – World Trail Running champs in Hawaii.
