Boniface Kiprop sharp for XC Worlds

Kampala — Former national track star Boniface Kiprop has impressed national coach Gordon Ahimbisibwe who believes the athlete will be on the team to the World Cross Country championships due in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz on March 28.

Kiprop, who was called to camp by virtue of his experience, has reacted well to training, according to Ahimbisibwe. Kiprop failed to finish the national cross country race after he was spiked during the event.

"He may not be having the form that saw him win medals in the junior events, but he has greatly improved. He will surely make the team when the final selection trials are held over the weekend," said Ahimbisibwe, after the team's training yesterday. "He is among the top runners in camp".

The local federation's technical committee will travel to Kapchorwa to check on the athletes, who have been in camp for the last two weeks. The training has however been interrupted by the incessant rains, that have made the mountain slopes slippery.

"It is at least improving. We have had no rains for the last three days and have trained well," explained Ahimbisibwe.
