The Sioux Falls Sports Authority announced today the creation of the Sioux Falls Marathon to be run in partnership with the Sanford Half Marathon on Sunday, Sept. 12.
The marathon will begin at Howard Wood Field at 6:45 a.m. and end on Oxbow Avenue near the entrance to Sertoma Park. The Sanford Half Marathon will also begin at Howard Wood Field and will start at 7:30 a.m.
“The Sports Authority is proud to bring another first class event to Sioux Falls as we continue to meet our charge as an organization” stated Kevin Lampe Chair of the Sports Authority.
The 26.2 mile marathon course will cover several different parts of the city and give the runners a true taste of Sioux Falls while providing them with a challenging but fair course route. The last half of the Marathon route will join in with the half marathon course and both races will end at the same finish line. The marathon course will be a USATF Certified course.
“We hope to provide local runners, as well as, runners throughout the Midwest the opportunity to participate in a first class event run on a first class course” said Mike Sullivan, Executive Director of the Sports Authority.
The Sanford Half Marathon is in its 13th year and has grown to well over 1700 participants. Race day will also include a 5K run.
Cal Hanson Director of the Sanford Wellness Center and Half Marathon Director stated “The addition of a full marathon gives us the opportunity to satisfy the needs of our regional runners.”
