Moroccan Olympian Abdellah Falil has withdrawn from the Boston Marathon 2010. His trans-Atlantic flight was canceled not once, but several times because of the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull. Boston Marathon sponsor John Hancock told The Associated Press that Falil would not make it to Boston in time for the race.
According to official reports, the start times for the 2010 Boston Marathon are as follows:
9:22 a.m. – The hand cycle event will begin.
9:32 a.m – The Elite Women.
10a.m. – The Elite Men and Wave One start is scheduled to begin.
10:30 a.m. – Wave Two.
The winners of men’s and women’s race will be awarded a prize of $150,000 each.
The 2010 Boston Marathon will take place this Monday, April 19. Boston Guide has already posted a listing of street closings or road closures. The 26.22 mile long Boston Marathon will begin in Hopkinton, Massachusetts and finish in Boston.
The prize is $150000 which will be distributed among the male and female race winner, respectively. The major thing is that the winnings have increased to more than $800000. There is a deal in place for the prize money between John Hancock and the Boston Athletic Association.
I’m nervous because I want to do well,” said Suris, a former basketball player at Lake Mary Prep. “I’m excited because it’s Boston, and it’s intimidating because I have heard so many things about the course. If you don’t have a good strategy, you can have a bad day on the road.”
