
According to The Boston Globe, 75 percent of the flights between Boston and Europe were cancelled yesterday, and many more remain in limbo today. The volcanic ash from the eruption can airplane engine malfunction, which, of course, can lead to catastrophic results.
British Airways has cancelled all flights to and from London Airport through tomorrow.
Another side effect the eruption is having is on Monday's Boston Marathon. According to the Globe, between 500 and 600 runners from Europe may not be able to arrive for the race. The Boston Athletic Association is allowing any European racer a special bib pick-up time Monday morning between 6 and 7. Any European racer who is unable to make it should contact the B.A.A after Monday's race to be granted entry into next year's race.
