25-year-old Kenyan runs fourth-fastest time in history; Ethiopia's Kebede wins women's race
Although no records were broken, the times were still smoking fast.
Patrick Makau of Kenya of Kenya ran away with the men's title at the 30th Fortis Marathon Rotterdam, recording the sixth sub-2:04 time in history in the process.
Makau's winning time of 2:04:45 ranks fourth all-time in marathon history behind Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie's world record of 2:03:59 from the 2008 Berlin Marathon and the identical 2:04:27s clocked by Kenyans Duncan Kibet and James Kwambai in Rotterdam last year.
The 25-year-old Makau's previous personal best of 2:06:19 was run in Rotterdam last year.
Shewaye Kebede of Ethiopia won the women's race.
