Jared Campbell of Sandy, Utah caught Diana Finkel on the climb up to Little Giant in the 93rd mile and went on to win the Hardrock 100 in a time of 27:18. Finkel had led for much of the race, taking the lead from Campbell after Governor's Basin at mile 36 and eventually opening a 28-minute lead by Grouse Gulch at mile 58. But Campbell then started to slowly reel her back in and by the last check point at Cunningham Gulch (mile 91.3) had narrowed the gap to five minutes.
Finkel, who was bidding to become the first woman to win Hardrock overall, finished second, more than an hour behind by the finish. It was the third consecutive women's win for Finkel, who finished third overall last year.
