Leadville Trail 100 Sold to Minnesota Company

The Leadville Trail 100, one of the country's premier ultra marathons, has been sold to Life Time Fitness of Minnesota. The 2010 race, which will be held on August 21, marks the end of the trail for Ken Chlouber and Merilee (O’Neal) Maupin, who have co-directed the race for the past 28 years since its inception in 1983. Life Time Fitness, a publicly-traded company headquartered in Chanhassen, Minnesota, operates a chain of 89 fitness centers in 19 states and conducts a series of trail races and triathlons in the upper Midwest.

The sale also includes the Leadville Mountain Bike Race, and a variety of other local events, including the Silver Rush 50 Mile Trail Run. Prior to assuming ownership of the Leadville Trail 100 Series, Life Time Fitness served as title sponsor of the event in 2008 and 2009.
