Haile Gebrselassie & Manager dismiss New York Times Report

EthioSports reports
In a interview with Ethiopian Radio & Television here today, Athlete Haile Gebrselassie and his Dutch manager Jos Hermens have expressed their dismay to yesterday’s New York Times’ report that claimed that Haile’s decision to retire from running after the New York Marathon last week was due to undue political pressure by the Ethiopian government.

Both Haile and Jos said that the report was untrue and baseless.

Haile said that such unfounded allegation only undermines the reputation of such reputable newspaper like the New York Times.

Jos, for his part, noted that he never told the reporter that Haile’s telephone was tapped by the government and that the pressure he was refereeing to about Haile was to indicate the busy schedule that he maintains in terms of his daily training, running his many business enterprises and the constant demand of his time by sponsors, companies and the media.
