Edward Tabut and Everlyne Lagat, natives of Kenya and residents of New Mexico, captured 26.2-mile men’s and women’s division titles on Sunday in the third Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon and ½ Marathon.

The victory for Tabut, 27, from Santa Fe, N.M., was his third marathon title in the past two years and his second in Texas.

Tabut, a winner last year at the Dallas White Rock Marathon, finished the course in 2 hours, 17 minutes and 4 seconds, a pace of 5:14 per mile.

Kenyan Paul Ngeny, who lives in Auburn, Calif., placed second in 2:21:57 and Keith Pierce of Cedar Park (2:23:16) came in third.

Lagat, 29, who lives in Albuquerque, won the women’s division championship in 2:42:45, averaging 6:13 per mile.

The sister of U.S. Olympian Bernard Lagat ran away from the field as she out-paced San Antonio’s Elizabeth Malesich (2:53:10) and Emily Loeffler (2:54:19).

Austin resident Scott MacPherson, a former All-American in track at Arkansas, won the men’s half-marathon (13.1-mile) title in 1:04:27. Molly Pritz, training out of Rochester Hills, Mich., was the women’s half winner in 1:12:14.

The times for both MacPherson and Pritz qualified them to run the full marathon at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Houston in 2012.

A glitch in the race developed at 7:27 a.m., 12 minutes in, when a train ran across Commerce Street at Sunset Station.

About 1,000 runners were held up from two to five minutes.

Out of 30,855 registrations, more than 26,000 runners hit the streets at 7:15 a.m. in perfect weather, with temperatures in the mid-50s.

Temperatures remained in the 50s and climbed only into the low 60s as officials presented the athletes with awards at 11 a.m.
