Ritzenhein withdraws from international event because of injury

MLive.com reports
Dathan Ritzenhein endured an injury during his holiday vacation that was unlike any he had experienced recently -- the kind that doesn’t significantly set him back.

The former Rockford and University of Colorado cross country star was training at Central Michigan University last week when he strained tendons in his left ankle.

Ritzenhein, who had a 2010 filled with discouraging injuries, said it was unrelated to previous problems and didn’t expect it to be an issue moving forward.

“It was just a little bit of a freak injury,” Ritzenhein said. “It was my first time on a 200-meter track in a while and I was doing a speed workout and it was a pretty sharp turn around the corner. It didn’t happen in just one moment; it was over the course of the seven miles of intervals, and it was probably just a little too much.”
