Just How Tough Is That New Houston Loop?

Before this morning's races in Houston, everyone wondered how the new Olympic Trials loop (8 miles) would run. Now we know. Still, it remains tricky to draw conclusions. Not even the stats, below, give an apples-to-apples comparison.

But if you want to pick a round number, it seems that the Trials loop course produces a half marathon about 30 to 60 seconds slower than the prior Houston Half course–the one on which Ryan Hall ran 59:43 in 2007.

"It's not flat, it's rolling, like a course in Kansas," said veteran roadie Sally Meyerhoff.
