A week after the future of the Palos Verdes Marathon appeared in danger, it seems the race will keep chugging along.
Promoted as the nation's second-oldest such event, the 45th annual marathon is set for May 14 following a Rancho Palos Verdes City Council vote to continue planning for the race.
The event's organizers, the Kiwanis Club of Rolling Hills Estates, had based the race out of Point Fermin Park in San Pedro for the past decade. But faced with rising fees in Los Angeles, they chose to move the event headquarters for the first time to Rancho Palos Verdes - only to find that costs were steep there as well.
