Sevilla Marathon (Spanish champs)

Celebrated, in the 27th Seville Marathon, Spanish marathon Championships the last 13th february.

The race was dominated by Ethiopians athletes. Daniel Abera, brother from Olympic marathon champion in Sydney 2000, broke the race record (2h10:36) with 2h09:53 (64:59-64:54) in a very fast last seven km. Gosa Tafa Megersa was second with 2h10:06 and 3rd Mitku Soboka Tulu with 2h11:44. In 4th position finished the 5th in the last European Champs in Barcelona Pablo Villalobos with personal best 2h12:21 (65:40-66:41) running in a second group with Javier Carriqueo, Argentinian record holder in 1.500m and 5.000m, like pacemaker to 24km. Villalobos’s coach is Antonio Serrano, the first Spanish marathoner under 2h10.

In the women race the victory was to Alemnesh Eshetu Habtemikael closely with Derbe Godana Gebissa, both from Ethiopia with 2h33:26 and 2h33:30 (77:33-75:53). In 3er place the Kenyan Beatrice Toroitich Jepkemboi (2h35:11 – 77:33-77:38). Tamara Sanfabio was in 4th place got the national title with 2h37:24 (77:33-79:51).
4.800 runners started the race in a very flat circuit that started and finished in the Worlds Athletics Champs stadium in 1999.
