Geoffrey Kipsang and Valentine Kipketer celebrate double victory for Kenya, Sabrina Mockenhaupt gets out after 12 km
There was a Kenyan double win it at the 31 Edition of the Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON. At warm temperatures and a light wind Geoffrey Kipsang won the race in 60:38 minutes (unofficial time) in front of his countrymen Eliud Kiplagat (60:52) and Daniel Chebii (60:56). Best German runner Stefan Koch (LG Braunschweig), who reached on 20th place in 64:50 minutes the goal.
Fastest woman was Valentine Kipketer. The Kenyan won in 1:10:12 hours (times unofficial) before Fate Tola (Ethiopia / 1:11:40) and Sonia Samuels (Great Britain / 1:12:56). Best German runner was Melanie Schulz (Erfurt LC) in sixth with 1:15:24.
The big favorite Sabrina Mockenhaupt (LG Sieg) gave the race after 12 km at second on lying, after it had been on course for a personal best (68:45). Apparently the 30-year-old was suffering from a short term injury problem occurred.
The record total attendance of 28 869 athletes from 102 nations had for 31 Vattenfall BERLIN HALF MARATHON reported. Among them were 25 500 runners and walkers.
