Alistair Cragg: Ireland’s Greatest Hope In Boston

With all eyes on Europe’s current distance running superstar Mo Farah, one runner may be getting overlooked: Alistair Cragg. The Irish runner recently set a national record at the New York City Half Marathon, running 1:00:49, which was eight seconds better than the previous mark held by Martin Fagan.

“I felt good the whole way and it was only in the last mile or two that the leaders managed to get away from me,” he said. “But it’s good feeling to get another Irish record and I’m excited about where this can take me.”

Cragg’s time bodes well for his marathon debut in Boston next month.

Besides his new half marathon mark, Cragg is also the owner of the Irish national records in the 10,000m and the 5,000m. Were he to run under 2:09:15 in Boston, Cragg would also own the marathon record. That mark has stood since 1988.
