April and Rono win Hannover-Marathon Hannover

The South African Lusapho April, 21 Hannover-Marathon won, ending the continued dominance of Kenyans since 2003 in the Lower Saxony state capital. The 28-year-old sat in the personal best of 2:09:25 by hours, but missed the course record from last year's winner Yusuf Songoka (2:08:52).

The women's race was won by the Kenyan Georgina Rono with the course record of 2:31:19 hours. Fifth Katharina Heinig (Frankfurt / 2:42:10) was 21 year old daughter Katrin Doerre-Heinig, who won at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul marathon bronze for the GDR.
