Sammy Wanjiru was the first Kenyan ever to win an Olympic gold medal in the marathon. At just 21 years old, he set the Olympic record with his winning time of 2:06:32. In sweltering conditions he took nearly three minutes off the previous record in what was widely considered one of the finest races ever run. In the wake of Wanjiru's shocking death, Athletics Kenya must find a suitable replacement for the 2012 Olympic Games.
