AK Nyanza South branch unveils team to trials

The Athletics Kenya Nyanza South branch has selected a team for the national track and field trials.

Releasing the list yesterday, branch Chairman Peter Angwenyi exuded confidence in the team and hoped it would excel in the national trials to be used in selecting a team to Berlin, Germany.
He said the branch entered a team in field events and sprints for the first time.

Prominent athletes in the squad include Sotokoto half Marathon champion Philes Ongori, marathoner Jackline Yangeri and Japan-based Jeliah Tinega.

Olympic gold medallist Charles Asati was named the team manager, while George Ogeto will be the coach. Eunice Onderi will be the team’s chaperone.

Angwenyi also announced that the branch has entered five runners for tomorrow’s national youth trials. The five are Victor Oseko (100m, 200m), Enock Omwamba (800m), Gideon Mayaka (1, 500m), Edwin Mokua and Joseph Onsarigo (1,500m).
