This time it's our friends at RunningTimes who chatted with Abdi. It's actually a neat follow-up interview to the one we have done a month ago before NYC's Healthy Kidney 10k.
"How would you describe your racing thus far this year?
AA: My racing season hasn’t really begun yet because I’ve been behind in training. I didn’t get to run all the races that I wanted except the [Healthy Kidney 10K]. I didn’t run as well as I would like to. [Abdirahman finished 11th in 29:02, which put him 1:14 behind the winner, Tadese Tola.] The day before the race, I was training in Central Park and I fell and bruised my knee. You know, a minor injury and nothing serious. But that race overall was great."
mzungo.org says: Central Park is a dangerous place. First you trip and fall. You bruise your knee. Then you get mugged because you can't run away fast enough. And next thing you know you find yourself with a knife sticking in your tummy.
Abdi, you were lucky!
