Well, another high mileage week left me with a new all time high- 96.1 (yes that .1 has to be added on, haha). This past week gave me a lot of confidence in what I can handle as a distance runner and what is yet to come. Yesterday I woke up and practiced my pre-race food before heading out to my workout at Lorane Highway with Brad. I had a nice practice for what it could be like on race day if it rains! By the very end of the workout the rain had pretty much stopped, but I was happy I had some practice in it. After my warm up and strides I got going on a 13 mile progression run aiming at finishing the last few miles around race pace.
The first three miles I got into a good tempo, 5:57, 5:57 and 5:54. I felt great and next thing I knew my miles were in the 5:40’s and then down into the 5:30’s. The huge hill on Lorane that I have always done in over 6 minutes I hit in 5:55. Overall my average pace for the run was 5:45 and it felt challenging the last few miles but not like I had run a race or anything. It felt great to have a fast workout feeling good and at the very end of my highest mileage week ever!
I went home and after showering and eating lunch I relaxed for a while before doing my strength training. My motivation to do it was partially there so I decided I better get a session in! haha I took an ice bath, walked my dogs and then got ready to head out to dinner.
It feels fantastic to have just completed two of my hardest weeks of training ever in my life, and to not feel like I am completely exhausted. I officially believe that I am a runner capable of doing high mileage. I know it will take some time to get to the point where I can do it consistently but for now things are looking great! I am relaxing right now and I have a massage in a couple hours…my day off today is bound to be a great one. I will for sure make the most of it and rest up as much as possible! 4 weeks from right now I will be on a plane on my way to Playa del Carmen!! woooo hooo!!!
