Amsterdam Marathon: Yegon breaks Amsterdam record

Kenyan Gilbert Yegon won the Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday and set a new course record on a brilliant debut over the distance.

Yegon completed the course in two hours, six minutes and 19 seconds and, despite suffering from cramp in the closing stages, that meant he had struck one second off the previous record set by Haile Gebrselassie four years ago.

The 21-year-old won ahead of fellow Kenyans Elijah Keitany and Paul Biwott, who clocked times of 2:06:41 and 2:07:02.

England's Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Dan Robinson was the first European finisher in 11th position, scrubbing almost a minute from his previous personal best time by clocking 2:12:14.

Eyerusalem Kuma of Ethiopia claimed the women's title in 2:27:42.
