Kenyans dominate road races

By CHRIS MUSUMBA

From Puerto Rico to Hong Kong, Kenyans showed their prowess in road races as Vivian Cheruiyot and Cyprian Kiogora successfully defended their titles at the World’s Best 10km and the Hong Kong marathon.

Kiogora won what he termed as ‘his hardest race’ when he braved hot and humid conditions to retain his title in two hours 20 minutes and 12 seconds.

In the women’s race, Indonesia’s Triyaningsih won in 2:47:35.

In the men’s race in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Moses Masai upset compatriot and last year’s winner Sammy Kitwara to win in 27:19, a personal best and a course record.

Cheruiyot won in 31:07.

In New Orleans, USA, two-time London Marathon champion Martin Lel outpaced current London champion Samuel Wanjiru to win the inaugural Rock ‚n’ Roll Mardi Gras Half Marathon in 1:01:07.
