Fee Docherty's Peachtree race report

I was excited to race Peachtree again this year. Last year I was a bit disappointed with my time, however I am starting to feel the ‘fire in my belly’ for racing, so was out to prove a point.

Training has been going well and after returning from a month of NZ winter, I have been enjoying summer time in lovely Boulder.

Atlanta is known for being “Hotlanta” and this definitely was the case for this year. I woke to perfect conditions but knew it was going to be a hot and humid race.

My usual pre race routine went smoothly, quick porta potty stop and straight to the start line. Seeing some familiar, friendly faces certainly helps to calm the nerves.

Once the gun went, it felt like everyone left me in their dust, my marathon legs missing that quick turnover of a specialist 10k runner. It was a good honest course although it was unbelievably humid for that hour of the morning.

Once I turned onto the final downhill stretch – I could see the clock at 33.50 and really had to dig deep as I desperately wanted to break 34, unfortunately the seconds ticked past too quickly for me and my time was 34:08. A 30 second PR for me and I am thrilled!

This is a great start to my 2010 race year, with a PR in the marathon 2:37.55 and 10km 34:08.

Thank you all so much for believing in me and helping me to get where I am today.
