Peachtree introduces lottery

The Atlanta Track Club, organizer of the AJC Peachtree Road Race which takes place every year on the Fourth of July, announced that it will use an online lottery system for entry into the 2011 event, and that it will be increasing the event’s capacity for the first time since 1998 from 55,000 to 60,000 participants. With the online registration slots for the 2010 event filling in just four and a half hours, the Atlanta Track Club made the decision to move registration to an online lottery to establish a fair registration process for entrants. Those wishing to participate in the 2011 AJC Peachtree Road Race can register for the lottery online at ajc.com/peachtree any time during the 10 day period from 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011. Regardless of the day or time one enters, all individuals and groups who enter the lottery during the 10 day period will have an equal chance of being selected for the 2011 AJC Peachtree Road Race. Entrants will be randomly selected after the lottery closes on March 24. All lottery entrants will receive an email by Tuesday, March 29, 2011 informing them of whether or not they were selected for the 2011 event. Searchable results of the selection process will also be posted on peachtreeroadrace.org and ajc.com/peachtree on the 29th.
