World Cross medal hopefuls injured after caning

The fate of two of the country’s brightest junior women prospects at this year’s World Cross hangs in the balance after an alleged beating from their primary school teacher over refusal to forcefully repeat Standard Seven.

Bydgoszcz fourth finisher, Faith Chepng’etich and bosom buddy, Naomi Chepng’eno who starred at the just concluded KCB/AK National Cross Country series were allegedly set upon by their Keringet Township Primary School deputy school head, Samuel Misik on Monday afternoon at their class.

The pair may now be forced to drop dreams for the March 20 World Cross in Punta Umbria Spain, as they cannot train due to injuries they sustained.

Chepng’etich who won four out of seven KCB meets in an equal number of starts in Tala (opener), Embu (fourth), Nyahururu (sixth) and Iten (seventh) lost conscious after the teacher set upon them with a blackboard ruler. She was taken to the nearby Keringet Health Centre for treatment.
