Culpepper still runs races - from behind the scenes

U.S. Olympian and Texas native Alan Culpepper is making a homecoming of sorts. He's the operations manager for the March 27 Rock 'n' Roll Dallas Half Marathon, benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Culpepper, 38, of Lafayette, Co., joined Competitor Group last summer and handles behind-the-scenes race logistics, including course design and management, for the fast-growing producers of the Rock 'n' Roll Series.
"They're growing so dynamically and were struggling to keep up with the growth," Culpepper said. "I've always had a desire to be involved with events. I decided to be involved in the back side of the sport."
He handles the nuts and bolts of putting on road races, getting runners safely from the start to the finish, ensuring runners' needs are met and local non-running communities are minimally impacted in the process.
Culpepper and his wife, Shayne Wille Culpepper, a two-time U.S. Olympian, sold their running retail store, Solepepper Sports, to explore this opportunity, which came through acquaintances at Competitor Group.
