Stop stretching?

One of the more interesting effects of run training is reduced flexibility in the joints of the lower legs. In a word, the more you run, the harder it is to touch your toes.

I’ve been reminded of this effect lately. For a while there I had a pretty good routine going of stretching at night as I wound down for bed, but then I got off track and went maybe five weeks without stretching. At the same time, I was increasing my running volume. A few days ago I decided to get back on track with my stretching. I couldn’t believe how tight I was. Just a few weeks of not stretching combined with increasing running volume had turned me into the tin man.
