Top Prize Money Is Doubled at Mt. Washington Road Race
The 50th edition of this 7.6-mile vertical climb in New Hampshire is on June 19. The event's major sponsor, Northeast Delta Dental, has doubled the prizes for the top male and female finishers to $2,000 each, with runnersup getting $1,000 apiece. Preparing to celebrate its own 50th anniversary, Northeast Delta Dental will also award cash prizes to the rest of the top ten men and women to cross the line at the 6288-foot Mt. Washington summit. Northeast Delta Dental President & CEO Tom Raffio will be running the race himself on June 19. With the help of associate sponsors La Sportiva and "New England Runner" magazine, $5,000 bonuses are available for men's or women's course record and $2,000 for masters records. This year’s race will also serve as the USA Mountain Running Championships for the fourth time. The top six American male and top four American female finishers will become members of the U.S. Mountain Running Team, which will compete in the World Mountain Running Championships later this year.
