Five months after her surprising win in New York, Edna Kiplagat is ready to win another major race Sunday at the London Marathon.
The 31-year-old Kenyan will make her debut in the race. Top competitors include Liliya Shobukhova, who won in London and Chicago last year, and Irina Mikitenko, a two-time winner in the British capital.
“I consider myself one of the favorites on Sunday,” the Colorado-based Kiplagat said Wednesday. “The biggest threat is Liliya because she has a lot of experience and I know she is among the best runners here in London.”
Shobukhova became the first Russian woman to win the race and knows she faces a challenge to retain her title.
