Who will it be?

David Krummenacker won a gold medal in the 800 meters at the 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships. To the best of my knowledge, that is the last victory by an American “distance” runner in a major world competition. But American running has experienced a renaissance since then, and it seems only a matter of time before another yankee runner wins a world championship title, an Olympic gold medal, or a major marathon. So, who will it be? Answering this question could be a fun parlor game.
