Joseph Lagat of Kenya won the Stockholm Marathon on Saturday in a time of 2 hours, 12 minutes, 48 seconds, while Sweden's Isabellah Andersson won the women's race.
Lagat and Hillary Kipchumba broke away early and raced side-by-side until the 35-kilometer mark, when Lagat accelerated into the lead and held on for a comfortable victory. South African Johannes Kekana finished second in 2:16.09 and Kenya's Jonah Kibiwott Kemboi was third.
"The race was good," said Lagat. "I was trying to win. Unfortunately I wasn't able to break the course record."
Andersson's victory was her third consecutive Stockholm Marathon win. She finished in 2:31.35, more than five minutes ahead of second place Aberash Tesfaye from Ethiopia who ran 2:37.20.
A record 20,136 runners from 76 countries entered the city's 32nd marathon.
